Elizabeth Graff, 18, of Homosassa, a recent graduate of Withlacoochee Technical College’s Industrial Machinery and Controls program, is working near Montezuma, Iowa, repairing and maintaining 354 wind turbines that produce electricity for MidAmerican Energy Co.
Graff, a former student at Lecanto High School, started her job at Sky Climber Renewables before graduating from college in May. She says she loves her work and couldn’t have found a better place, despite missing the water and sun of her native Florida. Graff finished second in the Citrus County Championships in 2024 at 101 pounds in both the Olympic and traditional categories, with a personal best in the snatch of 85 pounds.
Graff’s work involves maintaining wind turbines, which she believes contributes to a better world. She graduated from Lecanto High School in her junior year and has been working in Iowa for the past three months. Although she misses the beach, she enjoys the outdoor activities available in Iowa, such as hiking, biking, and fishing.
Graff’s achievement is notable, as she is a young woman in a male-dominated field. Her story serves as an inspiration to others, particularly those from Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus counties, who may be interested in pursuing careers in renewable energy.
