Several Citrus County organizations are reaching out to residents for support through various donation drives and community programs scheduled throughout May 2026. The Citrus County Abuse Shelter Association (CASA) is seeking donations of household supplies and food items to keep its pantry stocked, while the Penny Duteau Nursing Scholarship is accepting applications through July 7 for local nursing students.
CASA needs household cleaning supplies including paper towels, Kleenex, trash bags, laundry detergent and Lysol spray. Food pantry needs include crackers, tea, eggs, butter, sugar, kid-friendly drinks and snacks, milk, cheese, Ramen, beverages, mac and cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables, lunch meat, bacon, chicken, beef, pork, Ranch dressing, cooking spices, juice and bread. Donations can be dropped off at the CASA Outreach office at 1100 E. Turner Camp Road, Inverness, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at Carol’s Interiors and Floors at 6410 S. Suncoast Blvd. in Homosassa. CASA also has an Amazon Wishlist to make donating easier.
The Citrus Hills Women’s Club Inc. will hold Drive-Thru collections for five charities from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 439 E. Norvell Bryant Highway, Hernando. They are collecting items for CASA, Carter Street Head Start School, Habitat for Humanity, Pet Meals program and the Family Resource Center. Meanwhile, applications for the 2026 Penny Duteau Nursing Scholarship are being accepted for Citrus County residents who have been accepted into recognized nursing programs. Applications must be completed and returned by July 7 via email to [email protected] or mail to Penny Duteau Nursing Scholarship Fund, 109 S Hunting Lodge Drive, Inverness, FL 34453.
Other upcoming community events include a Pressed Flowers Workshop on Saturday, May 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Inverness Art Co-Op at 109 N. Apopka Ave., costing $50 per person with all materials included. The third annual Memorial Day Veterans’ Remembrance Ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Crystal Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 9640 W. Garden St., Crystal River, presented by Friends of Crystal Memorial Gardens Cemetery in partnership with Beverly Hills VFW Post 10087.
