Two health-focused opportunities are available for Citrus County residents this summer, including a hands-on microgreens growing workshop in Homosassa and a new international travel health program through the Florida Department of Health.
Christopher and Jennifer of Ferpher Farms will host “The Magic of Microgreens” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, in the fellowship hall at First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, located at 8831 W. Bradshaw St. in Homosassa. The cost is $35 per participant.
Attendees will learn how to grow microgreens from start to finish and will leave with their first crop already planted. Each participant receives a complete grow kit. The workshop covers the nutritional benefits of microgreens and how to incorporate them into everyday meals. Ferpher Farms will bring a variety of fresh microgreens for sampling so attendees can taste different flavors before selecting seeds for their grow kits. Separately, the Florida Department of Health in Citrus County has launched a Travel Health Program designed to protect residents traveling internationally. After scheduling a consultation, a travel health specialist will advise travelers about specific diseases and health risks based on their destinations and provide guidance on how to protect their health abroad. All services require advance payment, including a $100 consultation fee, and are provided by appointment only. Residents can learn more about travel health recommendations through the CDC Travelers Health website or by contacting DOH-Citrus directly to schedule an appointment.
