The Inverness City Council has approved a garbage fee increase, effective October 1, 2024. The fee will rise from $25 to $35 per month for residential customers. This decision was made during a meeting on Monday night, September 12, 2024, at the Inverness City Hall, 333 E. Main St., Inverness, Florida.
A rabies alert has been issued for the Floral City area after a kitten tested positive for the virus. The kitten was found on Southeast 5th Avenue in Floral City. According to the Citrus County Health Department, the kitten was about 3 months old. Residents are advised to keep their pets indoors and consult their veterinarians for guidance on rabies vaccinations. The alert is in effect until further notice.
The garbage fee increase is expected to generate additional revenue for the city’s sanitation services. The funds will be used to upgrade equipment and improve services. In addition to the fee increase, the city is exploring ways to improve recycling programs and reduce waste.
