The city of Inverness is moving forward with a new public art installation designed to bring color, sound, and interactive elements to a pedestrian corridor near the city’s medical district. The Inverness City Council on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, gave staff consensus to proceed with planning and artist selection for the city’s 2026 public art project, dubbed “Visual Symphony,” an immersive installation inspired by Disney’s “Fantasia.”
The project would be located along Highlands Boulevard between Citrus Avenue and Line Avenue, transforming an 88-foot section of pedestrian pathway into what city officials describe as a living work of art featuring interactive light sculptures, sound elements, and nature-inspired designs. “This will be more than an art installation,” Parks Programs Coordinator Kristi Brown told council members. “This will be a celebration of creativity, wellness, and human connection.” Brown said the concept is intended to create an environment where art, music, movement, and imagination come together while complementing the nearby medical campus.
The project continues a public art initiative launched by the city in 2021. Previous projects have included the mural on the Coach’s Pub building, painted cooter turtle sculptures, and bicycle installations at various locations. The city hopes to create a unique and engaging experience for residents and visitors alike.
The “Visual Symphony” project aims to promote healing and play, with every color, sound, and movement designed to create joy, reflection, and wonder. The city is seeking to bring energy and beauty to the area centered around the healing environment.
