Several Citrus County Lifters Headed to Regionals

Several Citrus County weightlifters will be competing in the regional competition after a successful showing at the county meet. The county meet took place on February 10, 2024, at the Citrus County Fairgrounds in Crystal River.

The lifters who qualified for the regionals include: Emily Wilson, a 17-year-old from Crystal River High School, who lifted a total of 155 pounds; Jackson Johnson, an 18-year-old from Citrus High School, who lifted 210 pounds; and Ava Rodriguez, a 16-year-old from Fort Island Gulf Beach High School, who lifted 120 pounds. The regionals are set to take place on February 24, 2024, at the Pasco County Fairgrounds in New Port Richey.

The Citrus County weightlifting team has been training hard for the competition, and their coach, John Smith, is confident that they will do well. “Our team has been working hard and making great progress,” Smith said. “I’m excited to see how they will perform at the regionals.” The team has been practicing at the Citrus County Weightlifting Facility in Crystal River.

The regionals will feature lifters from several counties in the area, including Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus. The top lifters from each county will compete against each other, with the top three lifters advancing to the state competition.
