The Inverness City Council voted to adopt a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries within the city limits on Monday night, April 15, 2024, at 6:00 PM, at the Inverness City Hall, 333 E. Main St., Inverness, Florida.
The decision was made with a 4-1 vote, with Council Member, John Smith, opposing the ban. The ban was proposed in response to concerns from residents about the potential impact of dispensaries on the community. According to Council Member, Jane Doe, “We heard from our constituents loud and clear, and they did not want dispensaries in our city.” The ban will take effect immediately, and any existing dispensaries will be required to close or relocate outside of the city limits.
The city council’s decision is in line with state law, which allows local governments to regulate or ban medical marijuana dispensaries. Citrus County, where Inverness is located, has not yet implemented a countywide ban, but several nearby cities, including Crystal River and Homosassa, have already banned dispensaries.
