A Road Ranger working a crash on I-75 in Wesley Chapel, Florida, was killed on Sunday night, July 12, around 8:30 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol said the Road Ranger was struck by a car driven by a person with a blood-alcohol level four times the legal limit.
The incident occurred when Road Rangers from the Florida Department of Transportation responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-75. The driver of the vehicle that struck the Road Ranger, 23-year-old Alexander M. Perez of Tampa, was charged with DUI manslaughter. Perez’s blood-alcohol level was 0.244%, four times the legal limit of 0.08%. The Road Ranger killed in the incident has not been publicly identified.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the incident. The Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Highway Patrol are working together to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
