Fatal Plane Crash in Land O’ Lakes: NTSB Reveals Details

A plane that crashed in Land O’ Lakes on January 16, 2024, killing the pilot, was only in the air for around 30 seconds before it was seen falling from the sky, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the 14700 block of North Lane Road.

The pilot, whose name has not been released, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. The NTSB is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash, which is still ongoing. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and local fire departments responded to the scene. The area is about 30 miles northwest of Tampa, near the Hernando-Pasco county line.

The NTSB’s preliminary report indicates that witnesses reported seeing the plane take off from a nearby airport and then suddenly lose altitude. The aircraft crashed into a wooded area, causing significant damage and starting a small fire. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is also assisting in the investigation.

Residents in nearby communities, including Hudson and New Port Richey, expressed shock and concern over the incident. “It’s a reminder of the risks involved in aviation,” said a local resident.

Further details on the investigation will be released as they become available. The NTSB and FAA are working together to determine the cause of the crash.
