The Brooksville Elks Lodge #2582 held their third annual Charity Golf Tournament at Southern Hills on Tuesday morning, with 116 golfers representing over a dozen businesses teeing off for a fun outing that would go towards a good cause.
The proceeds of the four-person scramble tourney will be allocated to a trio of organizations: the Life Center, Youth & Family Advocates New Beginnings Youth Shelter, and K9 Partners for Patriots. The cost per player was $150, a team of four was $560, and a hole tee sponsorship cost $130, resulting in a minimum of $18,500+ that could ultimately be used for positive change in the communities. The event was conceptualized by business owner and Elks member Dana Cutlip nearly four years ago, with the intent to create an event “that would bring members, friends, guests, [and] businesses together,” said Elks Lodge’s Gary Ashness.
The Elks’ grants and charity committees will get together to decide where they want to allocate funds. Though they could technically allocate funds to almost any organization, they “actively search for those that are most in need,” Ashness added. The lodge’s decision-making process involves member input, with a committee of around 8 people working together to coordinate the event.
The event saw a “phenomenal” turnout, with enough golfers to fill 29 out of a maximum of 30 potential teams. The Brooksville Elks Lodge #2582 continues to host events like this to bring the community together and support local organizations.
