PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Road Ranger was struck and killed Sunday night, around 10:30 p.m., while assisting at the scene of a traffic crash on I-75 in Pasco County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Road Rangers had responded to assist motorists and help manage traffic following an earlier two-vehicle crash.
The incident occurred when an Acura MDX traveled between two Road Ranger vehicles, striking one of the Rangers. The victim, whose name has not been released, was a Florida Department of Transportation Road Ranger. A 28-year-old Bradenton man, Jesse Michael Stinson, was driving the Acura MDX and has been charged with DUI Manslaughter. The crash is under investigation by the FHP.
The Florida Department of Transportation and the FHP are urging drivers to exercise caution when approaching roadside work zones and to follow posted speed limits and warning signs.
