INVERNESS, Fla. – A week after a woman survived an attack while swimming at an Inverness park, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said it is still searching for the alligator that bit her. Nikki Weber was enjoying Memorial Day Weekend with her children at Wallace Brooks Park on Monday, May 27, around 3:00 PM when an alligator latched onto her.
The incident occurred at 3865 E State Road 44, Inverness, in Citrus County. According to officials, Weber was pulled from the water and received medical treatment for her injuries. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) was notified and responded to the scene. The FWC is leading the search for the alligator, with assistance from local law enforcement and wildlife experts.
The search efforts have included aerial surveys and ground searches, but the alligator has not been recaptured or relocated. The FWC is urging residents and visitors to be cautious when in or near bodies of water, especially during this time of year when alligators are more active.
Residents can report alligator sightings to the FWC’s 24-hour hotline at 866-392-4286. Anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the alligator is encouraged to contact the FWC.
