An explosion rocked downtown Inverness on Monday night, killing one person, according to Citrus County authorities. Dave Mohr, owner of Moonshine Springs Distillery, died in the blast, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. at 133 E. Main St., Inverness.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Financial Services. Initial reports indicate that the explosion may have been related to a possible gas leak. The blast damaged several nearby businesses and homes.
The Citrus County Chronicle reports that Mohr was 36 years old and a well-known figure in the local business community. Moonshine Springs Distillery is a popular tourist destination in Inverness, known for its craft spirits and tours.
Residents and business owners in downtown Inverness are in shock following the tragic event. “This is a devastating loss for our community,” said Inverness Mayor, Scott Maddox. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave’s family and loved ones.”
