A 51-year-old Brooksville man was killed early Monday morning after being struck by an SUV while attempting to cross State Road 50, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 12:27 a.m., west of Deltona Boulevard.
Troopers said a Kia Telluride, driven by a 65-year-old Spring Hill man, was traveling westbound on SR-50 when the pedestrian attempted to cross the road. The driver of the Kia Telluride reported that he did not see the pedestrian until it was too late to avoid the collision. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The identity of the pedestrian has been released as John Smith, 51, of Brooksville. The driver of the Kia Telluride, identified as James Johnson, 65, of Spring Hill, was not injured in the crash.
