The Rotary Club of Brooksville held their annual Day of Giving at the Southern Hills Plantation Club on Summit View Drive on June 11. With help from funds raised through various drives and fundraisers, Rotary was thrilled to be able to give back over $25,000 in donations to local organizations.
The lion’s share of the funds, $15,000, went toward Premier Community Healthcare’s Mammograms for MANY (Mothers, Aunts, Nieces, and You) initiative, which aims to provide breast cancer screenings and medical care to the underserved women across Hernando County. Yvonne Grant, Community Engagement Manager, Premier Community Healthcare, received a large check on behalf of Premier Community Healthcare from Rotary President Ashley Council during Rotary’s day of giving. Year-to-date, Premier has seen 1,137 female residents in Hernando County with 621 of these women being able to complete their mammograms. 237 were uninsured, low-income women who would have struggled to receive this care without the assistance.
In addition to helping with this initiative, the Rotary Club of Brooksville has sponsored helmets for the Hernando High School football team, worked with the Humane Society, educated citizens on important initiatives at trunk or treats with Brooksville Main Street and the YMCA, and has continually worked to put a dictionary in the hands of every third grader in Hernando County.
