A Spring Hill man, Jesse Palmer, 27, fell asleep behind the wheel on Interstate 75 last week, causing a four-car crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on July 8.
Palmer was driving a Pest Bear of Dade City Inc. truck in the inside lane of northbound I-75 in San Antonio, Florida, when he drifted off to sleep and lost control of the vehicle. The truck crashed into a car, which then hit two other vehicles. No injuries were reported, but the crash caused significant damage to the vehicles involved.
The Florida Highway Patrol is urging drivers to stay alert and avoid driving while tired. “Fatigue is a major contributor to crashes on our roads,” said an FHP spokesperson. “We want to remind everyone to get plenty of rest and take breaks during long drives.”
