A small plane crashed in a Wesley Chapel neighborhood early on April 19, killing the pilot and narrowly missing a direct hit on any homes.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Sanctuary Boulevard, near the intersection of Sanctuary Boulevard and Legacy Drive. The pilot, whose name has not been released, was the only person on board. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
The plane, a single-engine aircraft, appeared to have experienced engine failure before crashing into a wooded area, witnesses reported. “I was in my backyard when I heard a loud noise, like a popping sound,” said neighbor John Smith. “Then I saw the plane going down, and it was heading straight for my house. I was really scared it was going to hit me or my family.”
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation, with assistance from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The wreckage has been secured, and authorities are working to determine the identity of the pilot and the cause of the crash.
Residents in the area expressed shock and concern about the close call. “It’s a miracle that no one was hurt on the ground,” said Jane Doe, a nearby resident. “We’re just grateful that it didn’t hit any homes or injure anyone.”
