A community meeting was held on Wednesday night to educate residents on a proposed rezoning ordinance that would allow 110 acres of farmland to be turned into an “employment center” at the Hernando-Pasco county line.
The meeting comes as Pasco County residents are voicing their opposition to the proposal, with many saying “it ain’t going to happen.” The proposed employment center would be located near the intersection of County Road 578 and State Road 41, an area currently zoned for agricultural use. Residents are concerned that the development would bring increased traffic, noise, and pollution to the rural area.
According to the Pasco County Planning Commission, the proposal is for a rezoning ordinance that would change the land use from agricultural to employment center, allowing for a mix of office, retail, and industrial uses. The proposal is set to be reviewed by the Pasco County Board of Commissioners on March 15, 2023, at 3:00 PM.
Residents can attend the meeting in person at the Pasco County Administration Building, located at 8731 Citizens Drive, New Port Richey, FL 34668, or watch it live online at the Pasco County Government website.
