On Monday, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony to honor the memory of fallen officers, adding two new names to the Citrus County Fallen Officer Memorial. The memorial, located at the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, 1 SE 1st Ave, Inverness, Florida, serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
The two new names added to the memorial are those of Deputy Sheriff James D. Hardy and Deputy Sheriff Robert E. Phillips. Deputy Hardy, 35, was killed in the line of duty on January 15, 1991, while Deputy Phillips, 42, made the ultimate sacrifice on October 29, 1986. Both officers are remembered for their bravery and dedication to serving and protecting the community.
The Citrus County Fallen Officer Memorial was established to honor the memory of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. The memorial features a wall of honor with the names of fallen officers, as well as a sculpture of a law enforcement officer. The ceremony was attended by current and former law enforcement officers, as well as family members of the fallen officers.
