Hernando High Flag Football Team Advances to Regional Final

On Monday, May 4, at Tom Fisher Stadium in Brooksville, the Hernando High flag football team defeated visiting Clay 32-6 in the Region 2A-2 semifinal. The Leopards’ quarterback, Carlie Grant, hit Aajyrah Adams streaking down the right sideline for a 51-yard touchdown on the first offensive snap of the game.

The game was a rematch of last year’s regional final, also won by the Leopards on their home field 18-6. Hernando, ranked second in the region, improved to 14-3, while third-seeded Clay fell to 14-2. The Leopards put away the Blue Devils by halftime, with Grant and Adams making several big plays. Adams also intercepted a pass and returned it 19 yards to the end zone in the first quarter.

“She threw a dot, man,” Adams said of Grant’s throw. “It was great. It was a nice throw.” Hernando head coach Tyson Ellis said the team’s strategy was to go deep early and it paid off. “You go deep on the first play, 60 yards, what can you do? It puts the defense back. They realize that we’re here to play,” Ellis said.

The Leopards will advance to the regional final, with their next game details not provided in the article.
