Leopards Leap Past Eagles Following Furious First Half

On Tuesday night, the Hernando Leopards (7-1) continued their strong start to the season with a 27-6 domination of the East Lake Eagles (5-3) at Tom Fisher Memorial Stadium in Brooksville. Junior quarterback Carlie Grant tossed 20 completions for over 200 yards and a pair of long touchdown passes and caught a third while pulling six flags on defense.

The Leopards started the game with the football, but an early fourth down deep on their own side of the field appeared to spell doom for the drive. However, a 37-yard pass down the middle from Grant to fellow junior wide receiver Alexis Sway would give the home team a fresh set of downs on the Eagles’ side of the 40. Three plays later, Sway delivered a short pass on the goal line to freshman La’Nivea Ford for the game’s opening score. Hernando High’s Alexis Sway had 13 catches for over 150 yards and two total touchdowns, while Carlie Grant was 20 completions out of about 26. “I think the first half of that ball game, we probably played our best football of this year,” said Leopards Flag Football Head Coach Tyson Ellis.

The Leopards’ victory was a significant one, as they continue to lead the pack in their league. The team’s strong performance was a testament to their hard work and dedication. “Karly to Sway also tonight, Sway racked up yards here and there, but they all played really good offensively,” said Coach Ellis. “They worked together. They solved things.” The win brings the Leopards to a 7-1 record, while the Eagles fall to 5-3.
