A man has been indicted on arson and murder charges in connection with the killing of his mother’s fiance. According to the Citrus County Chronicle, the suspect, whose name has not been released, was indicted by a grand jury on January 15, 2023.
The incident occurred on January 10, 2023, around 10:30 a.m., at a residence in Citrus County. The victim, identified as 62-year-old Thomas Johnson, was found dead at the scene. The suspect allegedly set fire to the residence, which was located on Southeast 5th Avenue in Inverness, Citrus County. The motive behind the crime is believed to be related to a dispute between the suspect and the victim, who was engaged to the suspect’s mother.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation, with assistance from the Florida Bureau of Investigation and the Inverness Fire Department. The suspect is being held at the Citrus County Detention Center, where he is facing charges of first-degree murder and arson.
