Local Events in Citrus County: Commission Meet & Greet, Flooding Concerns, and Pride Family Fest

The League of Women Voters of Citrus County will host a Board of County Commissioners “Meet & Greet” on June 10 at 10 a.m. at the Coastal Region Library in Crystal River. The event is free to the public, and attendees will hear directly from candidates for the Board of County Commissioners of Citrus County regarding their vision for the county. Following the formal forum, candidates will host individual tables for one-on-one conversations with voters and distribution of materials. Guest speaker Barbara Venditto, executive director of the Mid Florida Homeless Coalition, will present “More Than Tents: Understanding Homelessness in Citrus County.”

In other local events, a listening session to discuss flooding concerns will be held on June 11 from 5-6:30 p.m. at George Washington Carver Community Center, 95 Three Sisters Springs Trail, Crystal River. The session, facilitated by Robin Orlandi and Maxine Connor, co-chairs of the Citrus Conservation Committee for Sierra Club Adventure Coast Group, aims to gather stories, concerns, and potential solutions to flooding issues in the area. Additionally, Unity of Citrus will host the third annual Pride Family Fest on June 13 from 3-7 p.m. at 2628 W. Woodview Lane, Lecanto, featuring music, dancing, vendors, and family-friendly activities.

The UF/IFAS Citrus County Master Gardener Volunteers will also host a Plant Seminar on growing oranges in Citrus County on June 10. Topics will include challenges such as HLB (greening disease) and freezing weather, as well as the latest HLB-resistant releases from the University of Florida.
