Inverness Man Arrested Again While Awaiting DUI Crash Trial

A 23-year-old Inverness man, Jesse Tyler Collins, was arrested again on January 15, 2026, and faces gun charges as he awaits trial in a 2025 wreck that killed a teenager. Collins is scheduled to go on trial in May 2025 for charges related to a fatal crash on May 10, 2025, around 10:30 p.m., at the intersection of Southeast 5th Street and Southeast 111th Avenue in Inverness.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, Collins was arrested at his home on Southeast 111th Avenue after a search warrant was executed. Deputies found a Glock 19, a Ruger 10/22 rifle, and approximately 30 rounds of ammunition. Collins was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a rifle by a minor.

The fatal crash occurred when Collins, who was 22 at the time, was driving under the influence and crashed into a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Zachary Michael Platt. Platt died at the scene, and Collins was charged with DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and two counts of DUI.

Collins is being held at the Citrus County Detention Center with a bond set at $150,000. His trial for the fatal crash is scheduled for May 2025.
