The Inverness City Council voted down a proposal for a new data center on Monday night, March 18, at their regular meeting held at 301 E. Main St., Inverness, Citrus County, Florida.
The proposal, submitted by Holder Properties, had been a topic of discussion among residents and city officials for several weeks. According to city documents, the data center would have been located on a 27-acre parcel of land near the intersection of Southeast 3rd Street and Southeast 180th Avenue, in an area zoned for industrial use. The project faced opposition from some residents who expressed concerns about potential noise, traffic, and environmental impacts.
Council members voted 4-1 against the proposal, with Councilor James Smith casting the lone dissenting vote. The rejection of the data center plan may have significant implications for the local economy and development landscape in Inverness and Citrus County.
Residents and business owners can stay informed about future development proposals and city council decisions through the City of Inverness’ official website or by attending future council meetings.
