FWC catches alligators following gator attack at Lake Henderson in Inverness

Trappers with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission caught several alligators at Lake Henderson in Inverness on Thursday, May 28, after a woman was bitten on the leg by an alligator on Saturday, May 23, while swimming. The gator attack prompted a temporary closure of Wallace Brooks Park as wildlife officials worked to find the animal that caused her injuries.

By dusk on May 28, trappers had plucked three gators from the lake, ranging in size from seven feet to longer. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Agent/Trapper Shaw Grigsby, a long-time professional bass tournament angler, used Lowrance forward-facing sonar to locate the reptile and a treble hook to catch it, then a long pole with a noose was used to secure the alligator and drag it to the dock. A total of four gators were in the traveling cage that day.

The incident occurred at Wallace Brooks Park, located in Inverness, Citrus County. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission worked to capture the alligators in the area to prevent further incidents.
