Former County Commissioner Files for Open School Board Seat

On January 15, 2026, former Citrus County Commissioner, Scott MacDonald, filed to run for the open School Board seat in Citrus County. The seat became available after the current commissioner decided not to seek re-election.

MacDonald, a longtime resident of Citrus County, served on the county commission for several years. He stated that his experience in local government and his passion for education make him an ideal candidate for the School Board. “As a former county commissioner, I have a deep understanding of the needs of our community and the importance of quality education,” MacDonald said. He plans to focus on improving student outcomes, supporting teachers, and ensuring that schools are safe and well-maintained.

The Citrus County School Board oversees the education of over 15,000 students in the county, with 16 schools and several programs. The board is responsible for setting policies, approving budgets, and making decisions about curriculum and school operations.

MacDonald joins a growing list of candidates vying for the open seat. The election is scheduled for August 2026, and voters will have the opportunity to choose their next School Board member.
