Citrus County residents in need of food assistance can turn to several local organizations for help. The Citrus County Veterans Coalition offers food pantry services every Tuesday year-round and the first and third Thursdays of every month, except July 1 through September 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. Honorably discharged veterans or their surviving spouses can collect food items once per month and register during normal opening hours at 1081 N. Paul St.
The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs also provides free boxes of food to those in need through its food pantry. Residents can call the church’s new auto-phone system at 352-489-4858 for more information. Additionally, The Salvation Army operates a food pantry from Monday to Thursday at 712 S. School Ave. in Lecanto, serving hot meals to anyone in need at Daystar in Crystal River on Tuesdays and at the Lions Club in Homosassa on Wednesdays.
Other organizations offering food assistance include North Oak Church in Citrus Springs, which provides food and other necessary items on the fourth Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. No church affiliation is required, and residents can enter from North Citrus Springs Boulevard and drive through to receive assistance.
