The Inverness City Council will vote on Tuesday, July 19, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 212 W. Main St., Inverness, on a contract that would increase the city’s annual cost for enhanced law enforcement services from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office by about 5.7 percent. The proposed agreement would run through Sept. 30, 2027, and cost $1,427,069.65 for the next fiscal year.
The contract provides services above the baseline patrol coverage available to county residents, including dedicated staffing for the city and crossing guard services. City staff said the increase is primarily tied to salary and benefit adjustments for Sheriff’s Office personnel. The city is projected to collect about $5.34 million in property taxes, roughly $17,000 more than the current year, with a proposed tentative property tax rate of 7.46 mills, down from the current 7.56 mills.

Sheriff’s Office representatives reported that Inverness continues to experience a low crime rate compared with many similarly sized communities. City staff is recommending approval of the agreement.
