Food Assistance Programs Available in Citrus County

The Citrus County Veterans Coalition is offering food assistance to honorably discharged veterans and their surviving spouses. The pantry is open every Tuesday year-round and the first and third Thursdays of every month, except July 1 through September 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. Veterans can collect food items once per month and register during normal opening hours. The pantry is located at 1081 N. Paul St. in Inverness.

In addition to the Citrus County Veterans Coalition, other organizations are providing food assistance in Citrus County. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs offers free boxes of food from its pantry, and individuals can call 352-489-4858 to access the service. The Salvation Army operates a food pantry Monday through Thursday from 9-10:45 a.m. and 1-1:45 p.m. at 712 S. School Ave. in Lecanto. The organization also serves hot meals to anyone in need at Daystar, 6751 W. Gulf to Lake Highway, Crystal River, every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m.

The Citrus County Veterans Coalition has also extended its food benefits to DHS employees, who can receive supplemental food assistance during the shutdown. Those seeking to use the service must show proof of employment and can collect food once per month. Significant others of working employees may also collect food once per month.
