Hernando County residents are mourning the loss of Mike Carbonaro, a 69-year-old businessman and pillar of the local community, who passed away last week. Carbonaro was known for his kind heart, infectious sense of humor, and dedication to helping others. His company, Been Seen Pro, helped businesses increase their brand awareness and visibility, but it was his lasting friendships and unrelenting kindness that left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Carbonaro’s family, friends, and coworkers described him as incredibly genuine, never angry, and always willing to lend a hand. Kerri Lendo, owner of Cc’s Printing, got to know Carbonaro soon after her divorce and thought of him as a second father. She recalled his Yankee accent, which he brought with him from Connecticut, and his numerous one-liners and sayings, such as “See what happens when you don’t lock the front door, anyone will walk in,” “You’re a nickel holding up a dollar,” and “Glad you got to see me.” Carbonaro enjoyed building things and was working on various projects, including a motorized kayak he constructed, complete with pedals, two motors, and three car batteries.
Carbonaro’s impact on the community was felt by many, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him. His former coworker, John Peloro, accompanied Carbonaro on an ill-fated test voyage of the motorized kayak, which ended with the vessel sinking in the Weeki Wachee River. Peloro remembered the experience as “like the Titanic.” Carbonaro’s dedication to building relationships and helping others earned him a reputation as one of a kind.
Those who knew Carbonaro will remember his kindness, sense of humor, and generosity. His passing leaves a void in the community, but his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
