Citrus County Marks D-Day with Local Connection

Inverness, Citrus County – Today, June 6, marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in World War II when Allied forces invaded Normandy. While the invasion took place in France, a local connection to this historic event exists in Citrus County.

The Citrus County Historical Society and Museum has been working to preserve the history of local veterans who served in World War II, including those who participated in the D-Day invasion. The museum, located at 1211 S. Magnolia Ave, Inverness, FL 34468, features exhibits and artifacts that tell the story of Citrus County’s role in the war.

One such exhibit highlights the story of a local soldier who was part of the invasion. The soldier’s family has donated his uniform and personal items to the museum, which are now on display. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Work on a boat ramp in Citrus County has been postponed. The ramp, located at 1100 N. Riverside Dr, Inverness, FL 34468, was scheduled for repairs but has been rescheduled for a later date.
