Residents of Citrus County are speaking out on various local issues, including the role of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce and proposed solutions to recurring problems. In a recent letter to the editor, one resident expressed concern that the Chamber has become “collateral damage” in this year’s election, despite its long history of supporting local businesses and hosting events like the Christmas Parade, the Manatee Festival, and the Strawberry Festival.
The resident emphasized that the Chamber is not a political entity, but rather a business organization that advocates for existing businesses, such as barbershops, nail salons, car dealerships, and restaurants. They argued that it’s the County Commission and the Planning and Development Commission that bring new businesses to the area. Another resident weighed in on the idea of changing the clock, suggesting that instead of switching between daylight saving time and standard time, the county could simply move the clock a half-hour to accommodate both sides.
Additionally, a resident proposed a solution to the flooding issues in Citrus County, suggesting that the county save the current City Hall building, rebuild the park behind it, and add a small two-story building for storing important documents. They also cautioned against rebuilding City Hall near Three Sisters Springs, citing concerns that it would flood again.
Some residents also called for the demolition of the current flood-prone City Hall and its conversion into a park.
