Citrus County residents have several community events and opportunities to give back this weekend, including a summer choir concert, a free back-to-school bash, and an ongoing call for donations to the Citrus County Abuse Shelter Association.
The Citrus Community Concert Choir invites the public to its summer program, “Westward Ho!” Concerts are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, at Hope Lutheran Church in Citrus Springs, and Sunday, Aug. 2, at First Presbyterian Church of Inverness, both beginning at 3 p.m. Admission is $12 at the door, and students are admitted free. The choir will also present annual scholarship awards at both venues. The musical travelogue features sounds of Montana coyotes, desert winds, train whistles, and an old-fashioned barn dance. Also on Saturday, Aug. 1, the Dunnellon Women of the Moose Chapter 1662 hosts its inaugural Back-to-School Bash at Dunnellon Moose Lodge 2308, beginning at 11 a.m. The free community event offers backpacks and school supplies while supplies last, complimentary Safe Surfing Child ID Kits, school-related notary services, and access to a bloodmobile on site. Hot dogs, chips, soda, and bottled water will be available for purchase at family-friendly prices.
The Citrus County Abuse Shelter Association (CASA) is also asking for community support to keep its pantry stocked. Needed items include personal care products, household supplies, school supplies, and a wide range of food items including Enfamil Gentlease formula, fresh produce, meats, and pantry staples. CASA now offers an Amazon Wishlist at a.co/c6Wobgs to make donating easier. Drop-off hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1100 E. Turner Camp Road, Inverness, or at Carol’s Interiors and Floors, 6410 S. Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa. Additionally, HCA Florida Citrus Hospital will host a Cancer Survivorship Seminar titled “The Power of Art Therapy in Healing and Recovery” on Tuesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the Citrus Memorial Health Foundation YMCA, 4127 W. Norvell Bryant Highway. Separately, the Beverly Hills Leadership Council hosted a craft fair and car show on July 25 at Beverly Hills Lions Club and Beverly Hills Community Park, featuring food, jump houses, and a water slide benefiting the all-volunteer nonprofit organization.
