Central Bears Defeat Crystal River Pirates 12-6 in High School Football

On Tuesday evening, the Central Bears (6-7) utilized two touchdown grabs by Sophomore Aniyah Jones and an opportune defense to outlast the Crystal River Pirates (2-10) by a 12-6 margin on a windy night at the Bears’ Den in Brooksville.

The Bears’ defense, led by Head Coach Joe Nestor, made crucial plays, including two goal line stands in the first half and interceptions by freshman Emily Crosier and junior Val Hernandez. Crosier’s interception was her ninth of the season, a school record. The team’s sophomore quarterback, Lacie Bigger, connected with Jones on two touchdown passes, including a short pass over the middle with seconds left in the first half.

Jones’ two touchdowns helped the Bears secure the win, with the defense holding strong until the final 19 seconds of the game. Coach Nestor emphasized the importance of the defense stepping up and buckling down at the goal line, which they did, limiting the Pirates to just 6 points.

The win marks a significant improvement for the Bears’ defense, which had surrendered a combined 109 points in their last three outings. The team’s next game will be crucial in determining their momentum for the rest of the season.
