Dunnellon Man Survives Rare Aortic Rupture

A 57-year-old Dunnellon man is being hailed as a walking miracle after surviving a rare and often fatal aortic rupture. According to Citrus County Fire Rescue, James "Jim" Walker was airlifted to a hospital on Saturday, January 6, around 10:30 a.m., after experiencing severe chest pain while at his home.

Walker, a husband and father of two, was rushed to Citrus County Medical Center and then airlifted to a hospital in Gainesville for treatment. His condition was critical, with the aorta – the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body – ruptured. The rupture is a rare condition that occurs in only about 1 in 100,000 people, and is often fatal. However, thanks to the quick response of Citrus County Fire Rescue and the medical team, Walker was able to receive life-saving treatment and is now recovering.

“It was a real team effort,” said Citrus County Fire Rescue Chief, Jeff<second name not provided>. “Our team provided critical care in the field, and the hospital staff were able to provide the necessary treatment to save his life.” Walker’s family is grateful for the medical team and the community for their support during this difficult time.

Some of the factors that contributed to Walker’s survival include the rapid response of emergency services and the expertise of the medical team. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking medical attention immediately if experiencing severe chest pain or other symptoms of a heart condition.
