A Pasco County Fire Rescue first responder helped save a baby deer that had become entangled in fencing during a brush fire near the intersection of State Road 52 and Ehren Cutoff Road in Pasco County last week. The fire spread across 525 acres and caused smokey conditions in both Hernando and Pasco counties.
The baby deer, now named Phoenix, suffered burns to his hooves but has begun taking every bottle and “getting frisky” after he eats, according to Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife. Phoenix was transported to the sanctuary, where he is expected to make a full recovery. Owl’s Nest has extended an invitation to the unnamed first responder who saved Phoenix, hoping he’ll come visit and see how the young deer has progressed.
