Inverness officials announced that resurfacing work on South Apopka Avenue has begun, with contractors mobilized and making progress on the nearly $1.8 million project. The work, which started on July 8, is expected to be substantially completed by August 9.
The project covers about 3.6 miles of road from U.S. 41 to Anna Jo Drive. Citrus County Assistant Public Works Director Steven “Mitch” Eakin presented an update on the work to the Inverness City Council, stating that the contractor is making great progress and has no anticipation of running over schedule. The project involves applying a second layer of asphalt across the entire roadway, and portions of the road are being closed to allow crews to work uninterrupted.
Motorists are advised to check social media and the city’s website for information regarding road closures. Some phases of the construction will require flagging operations as it enters the city limits. The city is working to ensure that residents and county have uninhibited access during the construction process.
The project is estimated to cost $1,793,297. For more information on the project, residents can visit the city’s website or social media pages.
