SPRING HILL, FL – The Weeki Wachee High volleyball team, coming off a district championship in 2025, has wasted no time showing off its skills this season. On Thursday, the Hornets defeated the Springstead Eagles 25-12, 25-20, 25-18, in a convincing sweep.
The Hornets, led by head coach Erin Clark, dominated the early part of the first game, opening up a 17-2 lead. Kendyl Eastin served four points, followed by Marlee Schumacher, who scored 10 unanswered points, including three aces. Schumacher, a 6’4″ senior who committed to the U.S. Naval Academy, had an impressive game all around. Thursday happened to be Schumacher’s 18th birthday, and she celebrated with a stellar performance, tallying six aces and helping her team score 15 points while she was serving.
“We’re just excited with our young group and our senior leadership to continue to grow through the season and push forward,” Clark said. “It’s early, so there’s a lot of time this season to see what happens.” Schumacher added, “Our biggest goal going into every game is support each other, have fun, have a good, positive attitude and I think we really stood by each other even in those runs when you went down.”
The Hornets’ next game is not specified, but they look to continue their winning streak. The team’s performance this season has been impressive, with a strong start to the season, including a previous sweep of Nature Coast.
