Before I begin sharing the stories of the people I have met while driving for Uber and Lyft, I would like to tell you how I arrived on the road that made those stories possible. Alexandr Linnik, a Hernando County resident, came to America as an immigrant. Like millions before him, he arrived carrying hope, uncertainty, and the desire to build a better life.
For more than ten years, Linnik drove a box truck across the United States. His work took him through great cities, mountain passes, farming communities, deserts, forests, and countless small towns. He drove more than two million miles, watching America change with every sunrise and every season. Later, his professional journey changed. For nearly ten years he drove for Uber. Instead of transporting freight, he began transporting people. After that, he spent three years driving a cargo van before retiring. Yet retirement did not mean leaving the road behind. He returned to driving with Uber and Lyft,not because he needed another career, but because he still enjoyed meeting people and being part of everyday life in his community.
Over the years, Linnik has completed more than 32,000 rides. He reflects on his journey, “The highway became my office. America became my classroom. Every delivery taught me something about hard work. Every small town reminded me that the strength of this country is often found far from the headlines.”
Linnik’s story is a testament to the power of hard work and the importance of community. His experiences have taken him to various parts of the country, including Hernando County, where he currently resides.
