Severe summer thunderstorms rolled through Citrus County on Monday night, causing widespread disruptions and damage. The storms made landfall around 10:30 p.m., bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office reported multiple incidents of downed trees and power lines, with the hardest-hit areas being Inverness and the surrounding communities. Emergency responders were quick to react, with crews from the Citrus County Public Works department working to clear roads and restore power.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, but property damage was extensive. The storms caused an estimated $100,000 in damages to homes and businesses, with many residents left without power. The Citrus County Emergency Management agency worked closely with local utility companies to restore electricity to affected areas.
