On Monday night, the Citrus County Board of Commissioners heard public concerns about the amount of water being used by data centers in the area. The meeting took place at the Citrus County Administration Building, located at 405 S. Main St, Inverness, FL 34470. Residents and business owners expressed worries that the large-scale water usage by these centers could strain local resources, particularly during times of drought.
The concerns were sparked by a proposal from a company looking to build a new data center in Citrus County. The company plans to use a significant amount of water for cooling systems, which has raised red flags among locals. “We understand the economic benefits of these data centers, but we also need to ensure that they don’t compromise our water supply,” said Commissioner,
Some residents pointed out that the county’s water supply is already under stress due to growth and development. They urged the commissioners to consider the long-term implications of allowing data centers to use large amounts of water. “We need to think about the future of our county and make sure we’re not sacrificing our natural resources for short-term gains,” said one resident.
The commissioners have not made a decision on the proposal yet, but they have agreed to consider the public’s concerns. A final decision is expected to be made at a future meeting.
