CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office stepped in last week to rescue a dog that became overheated during a forest hike. On Wednesday, July 17, around 10:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call for assistance in the forest near Homosassa, a rural area in Citrus County.
The dog’s owner had taken the pup for a hike and, despite the presence of shady trees, the dog became overheated. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly and, with the help of a local fire department, carefully carried the dog out of the forest on a stretcher. The dog was then taken to receive medical attention. The incident serves as a reminder for pet owners to take precautions when hiking with their pets during hot weather.
