Drivers planning to travel through downtown Inverness on Friday, July 2, 2026, should expect road closures and traffic detours as the city embarks on its largest Patriotic Evening celebration to date. The event, which takes place on July 3, 2026, will affect several streets around Liberty Park, Wallace Brooks Park, and the Depot District beginning at 3:00 PM to accommodate the thousands of people expected for the free Independence Day celebration.
North Apopka Avenue will close between Zephyr Street and East Short Street in front of Liberty Park from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM due to heavy pedestrian traffic. Traffic on Gospel Island Road will be restricted to eastbound travel only during those hours. Westbound motorists will be turned around at Vine Street and North Apopka Avenue and directed back toward State Road 44. Northbound traffic on North Apopka Avenue also will be diverted west onto Zephyr Street before reaching Liberty Park. City officials encourage visitors to arrive early and use public parking lots throughout Inverness. Limited accessible parking will be available at the Depot Pavilion, 300 N. Apopka Ave.
The annual celebration is free and serves as one of the city’s signature events recognizing Independence Day. Those attending the fireworks can bring blankets or lawn chairs and watch from Liberty Park, the Depot District, or Wallace Brooks Park.
