On March 26, the Hernando County School Board unveiled its Family Engagement Mobile Unit, a converted school bus that will travel to communities where parents may not find it easy to meet with their children’s teachers or attend PTO meetings. The mobile unit aims to bring resources directly to families, including educational materials, health services, and social supports.
The primary beneficiaries of the mobile unit will be families with children attending Title I schools in Hernando County, which include Brooksville, Deltona, Eastside, J.D. Floyd, Moton, Pine Grove, Spring Hill, Suncoast, and Westside Elementary Schools; Explorer K-8; D.S. Parrott, Fox Chapel, and West Hernando Middle Schools; and PACE Center for Girls. The project was made possible through the financial assistance and “sweat equity” of individuals and businesses in Hernando County, including Home Depot, Eddie Ramirez of Ramirez Cabinetry, Blinds and More, Barry Beyerl, Automotive Mechanical Instructor at Nature Coast Technical High School, and his students, and the Michael T. Berger Charitable Foundation.
The mobile unit will offer practical guidance on parenting, education, and financial aid, as well as encourage meaningful family engagement in school initiatives and gather feedback to continuously improve services. No school district funds were used for this project.
The Hernando County School Board’s Family Engagement Mobile Unit is a great example of community collaboration and commitment to improving education in Hernando County.
