Get outdoors in May with these fun family-friendly activities

Citrus County residents and visitors can mark their calendars for a variety of fun outdoor family-friendly activities in May. The Citrus County Parks and Recreation department has announced several events, including the annual Inverness Mullet Festival, which will take place on May 1-2.

The festival will feature live music, food vendors, and activities for all ages, including a kids’ zone and a mullet-themed costume contest. On May 7, the Parks and Recreation department will host a Full Moon Hike at 7:00 PM at the Fort Island Gulf Beach. Participants will explore the beach and enjoy the scenic views of the Gulf of Mexico.

Additionally, on May 14, the department will host a Spring Plant Sale at the Citrus County Extension Office, located at 1432 SE 1st Ave, Inverness, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The sale will feature a variety of plants, including native species and vegetables.
