The Nature Coast baseball team’s outstanding season came to an end on Saturday night with an 8-2 loss to The Villages Charter School in the Class 3A regional quarterfinals at Sharks Field in Brooksville.
Coach Dan Garofano addressed his team for the last time this season, and he and his assistants spent several emotional minutes hugging and talking to the five Nature Coast seniors: co-captains Bryce Hewell and Garrick Waggoner, and Cashis Williams, Jadiel Arce, and Gavin Orta. Garofano said, “Except for the team that wins it all, everyone’s season has a rough ending. Our season ended sooner than we would have liked. But that doesn’t take away the season we had.”
Nature Coast finished with a 22-4 record, winning a Class 3A-District 7 title and exceeding preseason expectations after losing several key players from the 2025 team. The Sharks also finished with the third-best win total in school history.
The loss to the seventh-seeded Buffalo (15-10) wasn’t much fun for the second-seeded Sharks, who came into the game with 10 wins in their last 11 outings. The Villages Charter School jumped on sophomore right-hander Noah Sanchez for two runs in the top of the first inning with only one hit.
