Former Nature Coast Star Matt Breida to be Inducted into Georgia Southern Hall of Fame

Matt Breida, a former star running back at Nature Coast High School in Crawfordville, Florida, will be inducted into the Georgia Southern University Athletics Hall of Fame on September 25-26. Breida, who played for the Eagles from 2013 to 2015, rushed for a combined 3,012 yards and 37 touchdowns over his final two seasons with the team.

Breida’s impressive college career earned him a scholarship with Georgia Southern after graduating from Nature Coast in 2013. As a sophomore in 2014, he led the Sun Belt Conference with 1,485 rushing yards and led the nation with an average of 8.68 yards per carry. He also scored 18 touchdowns that season, 17 on the ground and one receiving, making him a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award given to the top running back in the country.

During his time at Georgia Southern, Breida helped the Eagles win a conference title in their first season in the Sun Belt Conference. He rushed for over 200 yards twice that year, including a 201-yard performance with four touchdowns in a win at Georgia State and a 210-yard game with two scores at Navy. Breida was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and continued to excel in his junior season, running for 1,608 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Breida went on to play seven seasons in the NFL after his college career. His induction into the Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame is a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sport. The induction ceremony will take place on September 25-26, with more details to be announced.
