Five people were arrested and transferred to federal immigration custody following a traffic stop in Hernando Beach on July 18. Deputy L. Shafer of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Shoal Line Boulevard and Bluefish Drive, where occupants presented identification documents from Mexico and Nicaragua.
After deputies contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE agents interviewed all five individuals at the scene. ICE determined that all five were unlawfully present in the United States. The driver had presented a Mexican passport, while the remaining passengers provided identification documents from Mexico and Nicaragua.
All five individuals were transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where they were placed on ICE detainers. They were later transferred to a regional ICE detention facility in Tampa. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said it continues to coordinate with federal partners to enforce immigration law and protect the community.
