Sarah Duncan, 17, of Crystal River, was crowned Miss Florida Teen USA on Sunday, July 12, in Orlando. She represented Citrus County as Miss Crystal River Teen USA and will now head to the national competition in Miami from August 24-26.
Duncan, a rising senior at Crystal River High School, was accompanied by her family and friends to the pageant that took place from July 10-12. Her supporters, including the Citrus County School District, Crystal River High School, and the Academy of Health Careers at Crystal River High School, have been showing their support on social media. Duncan is a Biomedical Science student in Crystal River High School’s Academy of Health Careers.
The Citrus County School District posted on their Facebook page, “We have royalty in the house! A huge congratulations to Crystal River High School rising senior Sarah Duncan on being crowned Miss Florida Teen USA! … As a Biomedical Science student in Crystal River High School’s Academy of Health Careers, she embodies the excellence, leadership, and dedication we strive to cultivate in our students.”
Duncan’s mom, Chellie, said that their group of family and friends supporting her from the audience were “literally crying” when she made it to the top six finalists. Chellie explained that one’s thinking reverses as the competition narrows. First, one is hoping, “Call her name. Call her name.” Then, after the final six competitors are announced and when the finalists’ places are announced in reverse order, one’s thinking changes to “Don’t call her name. Don’t call her name.”
